A man was apprehended on multiple charges Tuesday, roughly a week after a bank robbery in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Joshua Green, 21, faces two counts of armed robbery and kidnapping, the sheriff’s department announced Wednesday in a news release. Additionally, Green was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, as indicated by jail records.
The charges stem from the May 29 robbery at TD Bank on Two Notch Road, near the intersection with Brickyard Road, situated between Interstate 20 and Interstate 77.
At about noon on Tuesday, Green was arrested on Helton Drive in northeast Richland County, approximately seven miles from the bank, the sheriff’s department reported. The arrest saw a significant presence of deputies, but the scene was swiftly secured with no threat to the public, authorities stated.
During the initial response on May 29, bank employees informed deputies that an unidentified suspect had just robbed the bank, fleeing with several hundred dollars in cash shortly before law enforcement arrived.
“Joshua Green was taken into custody without incident,” the release noted. There were no reported injuries during the bank robbery or Green’s arrest.
The sheriff’s department did not disclose details on how they linked Green to the robbery. It remains unclear if the stolen money was recovered.
Green was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains without bond, according to the release.
