A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $23,000 to help cover medical expenses for Hailea Soares, a Somerset woman who was severely injured in a road rage incident. The funds will assist with her medical bills, therapy costs, and support for her two young children while she is unable to work.
On the morning of January 3, Soares was involved in a minor car accident at the intersection of Routes 1 and 1A in Attleboro. She rear-ended a vehicle driven by Gladior Kwesiah, 26, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. According to Attleboro police, Kwesiah pulled Soares from her car, and after a brief argument, he lifted her and slammed her onto the pavement. Soares sustained multiple injuries, including a broken knee, foot, fractured eye socket, and a gash on her forehead. She was treated at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Video footage from the incident, captured by Soares and witnesses, shows Kwesiah grabbing Soares by her clothing and throwing her to the ground. “He lifted me above his head,” Soares recounted in an interview. “I said nothing violent to him.” Her mother, Kimberly Soares, expressed her heartbreak, saying, “It’s absolutely heartbreaking and devastating to see someone pick up your child and throw them like a rag doll — and he did it twice.”
Attleboro police arrived at the scene to find Kwesiah standing over Soares’ injured body. He was arrested and charged with two felonies, including assault and battery and malicious destruction of property, as well as a misdemeanor for driving without a license. Kwesiah was arraigned in Attleboro District Court, where his bail was set at $25,000. He has not responded to requests for comment.
The GoFundMe page highlights the financial strain on Soares, who is the sole provider for her children. “The financial strain of medical bills, therapy costs, and providing for her children is overwhelming. We are asking for your support to help Hailea focus on recovery without the added stress of financial hardship.”
